Join the Trust Board

Help Shape the Future

of Dance in Aotearoa

We are looking for bold, values-led individuals to join the governance of the New Zealand Dance Festival Trust (NZDFT). As a Trustee, you’ll play a vital role in guiding the strategic direction of a kaupapa-driven organisation that champions dance as a powerful force for cultural expression, innovation, and connection.

NZDFT is the charitable trust behind Tempo Dance Festival and the emerging Dance Futures Initiative. Our board holds collective responsibility for overseeing the trust’s long-term sustainability, advocacy role, and continued service to artists and communities across the motu.

This is an opportunity to contribute to a legacy organisation that’s repositioning itself as a national leader in dance ecology and sector transformation.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome expressions of interest from individuals who are aligned with our values and bring any of the following:

  • Sector knowledge in dance, performing arts, or cultural leadership

  • Experience in governance, legal, or financial oversight

  • Strategic thinking and future-focused vision

  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity in the arts

  • Community, education, or iwi/hapū engagement

  • Fundraising, partnership, or philanthropic networks

  • A willingness to serve with integrity, curiosity, and care

What Trustees Do

As a member of the Trust Board, you will:

  • Attend regular board meetings (approximately every 6–8 weeks)

  • Contribute to strategic planning and organisational oversight

  • Support initiatives aligned with our five strategic pillars

  • Provide guidance on financial, legal, or sector matters (as relevant to your skills)

  • Act as a kaitiaki of the Trust’s kaupapa, reputation, and long-term impact

Trustees are voluntary roles, but expenses can be covered by arrangement.

Why Join Us

This is more than a governance role — it’s a chance to be part of a wider movement for change. NZDFT is entering an exciting new chapter, expanding its reach beyond festival delivery to sector leadership and advocacy. You’ll be joining a dedicated group of trustees committed to collaboration, cultural integrity, and creative courage.
