The Dance Futures Initiative (DFI) is a transformational project under the New Zealand Dance Festival Trust, established to support the long-term sustainability, leadership, and visibility of the dance sector in Tāmaki Makaurau.
Born from sector kōrero, artist insights, and the findings of the Tāmaki Makaurau Dance Enquiry (2023), DFI is a regionally grounded response to structural challenges facing dance artists, producers, and organisations in our city. It aims to address the gaps, build connective infrastructure, and activate new models for growth, development, and care.
DFI begins in Tāmaki Makaurau — but what we build here may help spark wider systems change across Aotearoa.
